Fish River Canyon

Two nights on the rim of the largest canyon in Africa.

Duration 3 Days / 2 Nights
Group size Max 10 guests
Next departure 5–7 June
Stay Canyon Lodge, Gondwana Collection

01 The journey

The Fish River has been cutting this canyon for something in the order of 500 million years. Standing on the rim at sunrise, with the light moving down the layers of rock, is the kind of quiet that stays with people for years.

We keep this trip to ten guests. That means one vehicle, one guide who knows the road, and enough space at every viewpoint to actually hear the place. You are collected in Windhoek, driven south through the Karas escarpment, and settled into Canyon Lodge before the first evening drive.

02 Highlights

01 Sunrise on the canyon rim, before the tour buses
02 Guided walk down into the canyon itself
03 Sunset nature drive through the reserve
04 Stone chalets set among granite boulders
05 One vehicle, one guide, ten guests maximum

03 Day by day

01
Day 1

South through the escarpment

Collection in Windhoek and the drive south, stopping where the country is worth stopping for. Check in at Canyon Lodge, then out on a sunset nature drive as the granite turns red. Dinner at the lodge.

02
Day 2

The rim, end to end

A full guided canyon drive along the rim in the best light of the day, with time at the main viewpoints. The afternoon is yours — the pool, the boulders, or a short walk. Dinner under a very dark sky.

03
Day 3

Down into the canyon, then home

An early guided hike below the rim while the air is still cool, breakfast back at the lodge, and the road north to Windhoek.
